how to colorize an image using HUE/SATURATION.
Before / After
Main source (a picture that I have taken and changed the background to black):
If do you have an image/source Black & White(grayscale), you need to change it to RGB image>mode>RGB:
At the bottom of the layer palette, click at the icon (a ball half white/black) and choose HUE/SATURATION;
Desaturate, moving the saturation slider to the left side
DO NOT CHECK THE COLORIZE now!!!!;
Start painting what do you want with the original color(source color), using a brush tool with set foreground BLACK, due the layer mask is WHITE;
First result;
Now, if a mistake happens, it is easy to fix;
Paint on the mistake with a brush using the set foreground WHITE;
To smooth the paint where you want, decrease the brush hardness and the opacity and paint. The set foreground must be WHITE;
The smooth result;
*** APPLYING OTHER COLORS AT THE WORK ***
At the bottom of the layer palette, click at the icon (a ball half white/black) and choose HUE/SATURATION.
----> CHECK COLORIZE!!!!!!
And move the sliders…
All the image will receive the color that you have chosen;
CTRL + I to invert(return the colors). Now the mask layer becomes BLACK.
Paint what you want with the brush tool, with the set foreground WHITE;
I suggest to write the color name at the Hue/Saturation layer
The same(steps 11/12/13/14) with other color…now green
Paint result;
Now with blue;
Purple;
Brown;
Dark yellow;
The whole work with the layers
If you want to change some color, is very easy. In that case the blue will be changed. Double click at the layer thumbnail;
Now change the Hue --- Saturation --- Lightness
Changed of color result;
FINAL RESULT (without the steps 22/23/24)
Thank You
